1 Peter 4:8 – Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
Deeply – what does it even mean?
I think we use the word love way too much in our culture. We love our friends, love our iPads, love our favorite tv shows. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard someone say, “Love you, mean it”, without the slightest bit of emotion. Is this what we have come to?
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of superficial love. Superficial love is not true love. It’s a shallow exaggeration. Love should not be taken lightly.
We are called to love one another with intensity. This means depth is required because the journey we are on is not all sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows. Although I do look forward to all of those things along the way.
Someone recently told me that depth is like being a carrot. On the surface, all you see is a little bit of green. But underneath the soil is the meat and the heart of what has been truly developing. It’s a root. And when you have depth rooted within you then you have the capacity to love with intensity.
How deep is your love?
