City of Angels

Hebrews 13:2, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”

I live in the City of Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. When I moved here 7 years ago I began to ask locals about the history of the name. No one really had an answer aside from, “It means Angels in Spanish.” But I know that names have great meaning in my faith. Angels are messengers. We know that there are angels who work for God and there are fallen angels who work against God. At least, that is what I believe and have experienced in my life.

I have had several angel encounters throughout my life. They started happening around the age of 6 when I attended church summer camp. Some of the angels I have encountered have simply been in the room, not saying a word. These angels were watcher angels. Other angels have come to me in human form with a very clear and timely message for my life. Like the elderly black man who appeared on the bench next to me in Express as I waited for a friend in a dressing room. He told me I should move to Hollywood and then proceeded to tell me why. I got up to tell my friend the news, but when I looked back he was gone.

Or the other man who appeared next to me as I stepped out of the back door of PIHOP and walked in perfect sync with me.  His name was Stanley and he had fiery eyes and he game me messages about my body being the temple of God. Or the angel who seemed to float through traffic as I was at a red light on my way to an audition. He had gold coins in his ears and he passed my window and held out his hand for change. I told him no, even though I had 15 cents because I was rushing to an audition. He pointed to the cross on my rear view mirror and then seemed to fade as I looked in my rear view mirror.

But the most recent angel encounter that changed the course of my life was a man who appeared homeless. We had a powerful exchange on the streets of Pasadena and he gave me the following verse –

John 8:12, When Jesus spoke again to the people he said, ” I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Angels have been a big part of my life and I always look forward to the next encounter. Have you experienced angels? What message did you receive from your angel?

Love Lezlie
