Love is kind.
Imagine you find a hole in your kitchen wall one day. Inside of the wall is a dusty old box with antique toys that clearly belong to a little boy. What would you do? Would you toss it in the trash? Maybe you would hunt down Antiques Roadshow to see if you could make a quick buck. Would it cross your mind to try to find the original owner in order to return the toys?
Yesterday I got to see my favorite movie of all time, Amelie, on the big screen with Clarence and two of our newly engaged friends Kamela & Keiran. Archlight Hollywood had a one time special showing so I grabbed 4 tickets as soon as they went on sale. Amelie is a quirky introverted waitress who lives alone and dreams about love. One day she is in her apartment and she discovers a small box with old toys in her wall. She decides to make it her mission to find the original owner and surprise him. On her way to meeting the owner she crosses paths with an elderly blind man who is waiting to cross the street. Amelie grabs his hand and describes everything they pass so he could experience the world around him through her beautiful eyes.
This is loving kindness.
Kindness is being nice and thoughtful when you don’t have to be. It’s caring about other people, and ensuring that no one comes to you without leaving better or happier than before. Mother Theresa said, “Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, and kindness in your warm greeting.”
Kindness is love.
