“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:35

The other night I went to a friend’s birthday party in Hollywood with Clarence. The beautiful birthday girl introduced me to her sister who is a Pastor’s wife. It was kind of loud in the venue so I couldn’t quite hear her but I saw her sister smile. So I asked her what she said and she said, “I told my sister you are a Christian. A real Christian.” My heart’s never smiled so hard. I am not really close to the birthday girl so I wondered how in the world she could make a statement like that. Nevertheless, I was greatly encouraged.

This morning as I prayed I was reminded of John 13:35. And I think that I’m really starting to see that more people are paying attention to my actions and words than I realize. That goes for all of us. I’ve always heard that saying but it just became true in a tangible way for me. I also believe that as people of faith we are recognized by our fruit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We’re human so there will be times where we may fail in these areas but the fruit is still on the vine to pull from once you have it.

“If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India [and the world] would be Christian today.” – Gandhi . I remember reading another quote from Gandhi that basically said that he’d be a Christian if he ever met a real one. I believe that there are plenty of us out there.

Be encouraged lovers!
