When I was in middle school the movie Clueless came out. This was right around the time I met my friend Toni, well we met in high school. Since Dionne was black and Cher was white we naturally called ourselves Dionne & Cher, duh. I feel like we have lived 10 lifetimes since we first became friends but we always pick up exactly where we left off. She’s a lifer. Since I’m spending the week in San Diego this week we finally got to hang out. I haven’t seen her since my wedding in December where she was my fabulous bridesmaid. It’s really funny. As we chatted over an incredible lunch at Jake’s Del Mar it was clear that we are the same people we were in high school. Yet here we are happily married and she’s a super mom. We’ve matured. Toni is one of those no-nonsense friends who will tell you like it is. And God knows that we all need at least one of those in our lives. But she never speaks the truth carelessly, which is a treasure.
One of the spouse’s I met earlier in the week at the USC orientation teaches about the aging process. She said the one piece of data she’s found that’s surprising and always gives as advice is to keep your friends. This prevents aging more than anything. Interesting, huh? I’ll toast to that!
