My mom told me that when I was a toddler I’d always stop and say, “ooooooh pretty!!” when I saw something or someone I thought was beautiful. I do enjoy beauty. Sometimes I can’t even put my finger on why something is beautiful. It doesn’t have to be perfect or shiny or even colorful (though I do enjoy all of the above). But it’s always interesting. When you live and work in LA you are constantly surrounded by surface beauty. This is the place that beautiful people move to in hopes of becoming a star. So even your check-out guy or girl at the grocery store will be incredibly well put together depending on what side of town you are on. Some of the most beautiful people I know though would easily be passed by on the street if you were just looking on the surface. And they truly are beautiful, I can’t stop staring at them :D. That’s why I know beauty is something much deeper than the outside. I think of 1 Samuel 16:7 as I write this.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Around this time last year some of my closest friends planned the prettiest bridal shower ever for me at Lola’s. It was decorated with some of my favorite things. My friend Sweet Lady Jane captured all of these pretty images from the day, as well as the photos from my wedding day.
Do you know beauty when you see it?
