Do I sound harsh? I don’t mean to, really I don’t. Am I the only one that’s noticed all of the things people can’t wait to declare they are proud about? Maybe this is just another lesson in love I am personally going through because I find myself stopping in mid sentence now as I say, “I’m so proud of….” or “You must be so proud…”. Am I making a bigger deal about this than I need to? Or are we really not supposed to be proud about anything? The definition of pride is, “a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.” Maybe that is the problem with pride, pleasure derived from our own achievements. This path that I’m on is all about laying down my life, right?

Last weekend Clarence and I were invited to the first USC home game of the season. It was our first game ever as Trojans so we had to get t-shirts to represent. I knew going into this that USC has a great deal of pride in their school. And as we bought our new shirts in the bookstore the girl next to us confirmed this with her “My School Is Better Than Your School” t-shirt. I get it. It’s a football game and we are having fun. We DID have fun :). But we have to be careful not to be proud people if we are going to really exemplify love.
