Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. – Jesus
I love sites like Living Social and Groupon because they suggest new ways to have fun in LA without me having to search. I’ve always been someone who would rather have an experience than a “thing” when it comes to spending money. I think because I want to get the most out of my life while I’m on this earth. So my friend Alma sent me a deal on fishing in Newport Beach. I’d never gone before so the answer was yes of course! The company we went through was Davey’s Locker and I’d highly recommend them. The boat was the perfect size and at the end of the day they cleaned and sliced the fish for you for a small fee.
An 80 year old man came up next to Clarence and gave us some pointers and talked about life. I can’t really say there is a trick to fishing, at least I didn’t learn any besides making sure the bait was on correctly and being patient. There were times when the people to the left and the right of me caught fish and I didn’t. And some people were able to catch the more desirable fish while other’s didn’t. A few times my pole came up and the bait was gone with no fish in sight. Once I caught two fish at once.
I thought about people and the many nuggets that Jesus spoke about when fishing for men. So it became a bit of a spiritual experience for me as well. It also forced me to connect with the food I normally eat in a way that I never had before. I’m still thinking about it all.
